So, I’ve been playing with Google’s new browser, Chrome.  I have to say that this concept is killer.  Aside from a few bugs(can’t maximize on a secondary monitor with varying resolutions), I love it.

See, I use a lot of web apps.  GMail, Google Docs, MySpace, FaceBook, my blog dashboards, etc.  I’ve come to the point that I don’t feel these are web applications anymore.  I feel more like they’re local, as I use them so much.  As such, I’m glad to see a browser come along that takes the same stance, and takes it seriously.

I really don’t feel like Chrome is a browser.  It’s more like a computing gateway, or web container.  I’m beginning to think of Chrome more as a necessity for my web applications.  I like having certain sites as shortcuts on my desktop that load into an exclusive window with all links opening up in a new tabbed window.  It’s just so much more comfortable this way.

I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on Chrome.  I know what I’m sticking with for a while, at least.

I have had a couple of false starts with this article, so I’m giving it another try. The last couple of times were very lengthy and Rambling™, so I’ll try to pare it down this time.

Since 2002, I have been a Windows and Linux guy. Before that time, I had been a Mac user for a number of years, but after a couple of divorces and stretches of homelessness, ex-wives kept the spoils and left me with very little.

I’ve always tried to get back to having a Mac, though. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I thought Leaf was going to be solution I needed for bypassing the insanely slow speeds of Hamachi.  Apparently, however, it doesn’t really support P2P TCP/IP communications.  The VPN is ALL you get.  No VNC, no IP gaming, nada.  Given, it does have support for XBox 360 network gaming, but that doesn’t do me a damn bit of good when all I want is to be able to manage files and remotely control a PC.

Not to mention the fact that Leaf refuses to run while the Hamachi network adapter is enabled.  I could’ve used both, but since they don’t play nicely….Leaf is out.

So, I’ve been pretty upset lately with the dramatic decrease in speed I’ve seen on LogMeIn’s Hamachi system. Most of the time on Windows explorer.exe would completely freeze up for 1-2 minutes, which in my mind isn’t acceptable on any level.

While taking a quick break from housecleaning (ex-mother-in-law-to-be is visiting), I glanced at news stories on the web. One headline just made me nearly punch the screen in anger:

“Oil prices up on word US ship fired on boats in Persian Gulf”

Um…WHAT!? Read the rest of this entry »

I’m currently formatting a spare 80GB Hard Drive I had laying around…my goal?  OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Ubuntu.  Yes, all on one machine.  This should be quite interesting.  I’ll probably run them in Virtual Machines…unless I get really brave.  I’m not feeling especially brave at the moment.
