I’ve run across several terrible bugs in RB while working on the next release.  The only workaround appears to be switching back to R3.1.  While I hate to do that, I don’t have much of a choice.  The switch back to R3.1 will only be for my development, and I will still test in R4 before release.

One of the bugs is really driving me crazy.  On Win32, if you encrypt a project item then either try to make it external or save the project…instant death.  Memory error.  As you know, if my classes aren’t encrypted they don’t get released.  So R3.1 will be for dev, R4 will be for testing.

Myself and a few others are anticipating a R4.1, as there appear to be some significant issues in R4 for Mac as well.  I really hope it addresses these issues.

Sorry you had to go through that. Let’s hope they get that fixed soon.

There are a whopping *zero* reports of this behavior, so I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a fix since no one actually knows it’s a problem. FWIW, I just tried to reproduce the issue in r4 and cannot… Perhaps there’s something specific to your class, or your setup, or your steps. But if you report it (which I’d recommend you do), be sure to give some way to reproduce the issue.

Actually, I had planned to report it after I get word back from a few of the people whom I rely upon for confirmation of these sorts of things. I’m not really sure how it could be a problem with my project, since the class was nearly empty and had just been started. I’m going to try to get back to work on this problem over the weekend. At which time I’ll have more concrete information. I’ve already gotten a confirmed report from one of my testers, so we’ll see.

In the meantime, I really hope the guys at RS aren’t taking these posts as critical(which it seems they may be). This was merely expressing what I was experiencing to my readers. I really enjoy RB,and just bought a license and updates through December 2009 if that tells you anything.

At any rate, I think you guys are doing a good job, and as always, I look forward to the next release with great anticipation.

Naw, I wasn’t taking it as a critical remark so much as going “crap, that’d be bad if it’s true. I wonder why I’ve not heard about it!” Just peddling the mantra “report, report, report!” :-)
